Meet Our PMA Coordinators

Sharon Custer - Coordinator for Area Ministries 1, 2, 3, and 5

Sharon lives in Hoisington, Kansas, and is a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Her husband Bruce is a retired school administrator. They have two adult children.

Sharon grew up in Duran, Illinois, with her parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Trinity Lutheran Church in Duran is her "home" church. Sharon attended Western State College of Colorado in Gunnison where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in instrumental music education and a Master of Arts degree in music.

Sharon is the instructor on an online Music Appreciation course and creates and maintains several web sites. She has also worked in the legal field as a paralegal, legal administrator, trainer and consultant.

Genealogy is one of her hobbies. And, in 2003 she traveled to Norway with her husband, two sisters, and members of Numedalslagen Lag to visit the land of her maternal grandmother's parents. Sharon says, "Attending worship in the kirke where my great-grandmother was baptized and confirmed and visiting with Norwegian cousins were the the highlights of the trip."

Sharon plays clarinet in the Great Bend City Band, the Prairie Winds Community Band, the Barton County Community College musical orchestra and various other groups. She organizes and directs the Hoisington Community Christmas Cantata each year.

Sharon's focus throughout her life in the church has been worship and music which she continues today. In addition, evangelism is a focus. She believes the most important part of the Parish Ministry Associate Program is the opportunity to learn and grown in faith.

Sid Hose - Coordinator for Area Ministries 4, 6, and 7

I was born and raised in Massillon, Ohio, a former steel town about 20 miles south of Akron.  I graduated from Kent State University with a degree in business and served in the U.S. Army in 1961-62 after graduation.

My business career was in sales and sales management and covered almost 45 years.  The companies I worked for marketed small electrical appliances and seasonal appliances (portable electric fans, heaters, humidifiers, dehumidifiers and air purifiers) to the leading retailers in this country and other nations around the world.  For 25 of those years, I was Vice-President Sales for three of those companies.

I completed the PMA program in December 2007 and was certified in early 2008.  I helped serve Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Independence, Missouri, in a Pastoral capacity from June 2008 to June 2009.  I have been serving as the Pastor of Friends Home Lutheran Church in Savonburg, Kansas, since July 2009..

My wife (Frances) and I have been married for nearly 49 years and we live in Grain Valley, Missouri.  We have four children (ages 47 to 39) and ten grandchildren (ages 20 to 6).  My hobbies are physical exercise (including playing softball), reading and family.

Mary Keidle - Coordinator for Area Ministries 8, 9 and 10

I was born in 1951 in Milwaukee Wisconsin. When I was four, we moved to southern Indiana and I have lived in the midwest ever since. I moved to Springfield, Missouri, in January 1986. I have Associate degrees in Business Administration and Commercial Horticulture. Quite a combo. I also have a BA in Business Administration from Drury University.

I have worked for City Utilities here in Springfield for 20 years. I started out as a dispatcher in the bus department for two years. For the past 16 years have worked in the gas industry. I have worked in gas construction, gas metering and for the past five years as a Field Service Tech. In plain English, this means that I work with residential gas, water and electric metering concerns. These can range from turning them on or off to installation of meters. My job also includes investigating and resolving gas odors and carbon monoxide problems. I have received on the job training in conflict resolution through my work as a collector. Currently, I am acting as a peer trainer in our newest computer application relating to gas leaks.

I am single but still hopeful that somewhere out there is the right guy. I have two sisters who both live in Iowa. I also have a three year old great-niece and a two year old great nephew who give me great delight when I get to see them.

I received my PMA certification in 2006 and have done pulpit supply in Area 8 congregations as needed. In my home congregation, Messiah, I assist at the Saturday evening services, do pulpit supply at these services as needed, lead the bread baking class for the first confirmation students. IN addition, I instruct them in setting up communion and letting them do this for the Sunday they are taking their first communion. I also facilitate an adult education class and other duties as needed. I consider donkey duty my calling and privilege.
